Power BI General Availability July 24th

Yesterday Microsoft announced the general availability of Power BI - it will be available July 24th.

Great new features include new visualizations and additional formatting options through the browser:

One new chart type are waterfall-charts. Have you ever seen the sales of your product portfolio from this perspective?

Additional charts that will be available in Power BI are Tree Maps, Combo Charts, Funnels, Gauges, Area Maps, Donuts, Area Charts, Matrix and others.From the long list of new features the following are especially interesting:

  • Power BI will help groups to share Power BI content

  • Support for Excel-Workbooks through Excel-Online directly in Power BI

  • Power BI REST API

  • Direct connection to SQL Server Analysis Services tabular models for data exploration
